Taylor and Jocelyn
Breakfast with all the siblings, except for Jillian.
Holy cow, what a month was June!!! We stayed with my brother for 3 weeks (bless you) in Utah and were able to catch up with some family and friends. The first week was wonderful and then we caught THE WORST bug in the world. We were all coughing and sneezing and had high temperatures. Jocelyn was the worst off with an ear infection and temperatures reaching 103.5 , non stop coughing and a runny nose!! Needless to say it put a small damper on all of our plans and we couldn't really leave the house.
Two weeks later we were still deathly ill, slowly giving it to all the members of my brothers family. What a happy house we had! Come race time and I tell my sister that I don't think I should run...well just the day before one of the members of our team trips and falls and breaks his ankle. They are already scrambling to find a replacement and don't think they can find anyone the day before. So what do i do? Run of course! It was so miserable. My first leg was in 103 degree weather and afterward I couldn't speak and did not stop coughing for 5 HOURS!!!! No joke. I told them I didn't think I could run my next leg. They said just try and if you need to stop we'll pick you up. My next leg was at 3 in the morning so it was nice and cool. My recovery time was much quicker. It only took me an hour and a half to stop coughing :-) Well my third leg was the first half of "The Ragnar". Basically a hike up a mountain. A 3.6 mile "run" at a 7.8 incline in 103 degree weather going up 1600 feet of elevation in that short amount of time. That was brutal!!!!
I got home that night and couldn't breathe and couldn't walk!! I called my husband and told him to make me a doctor's appointment right away. We flew out the next day, landed in Oakland and drove straight to the appt. Basically I gave myself self-induced asthma and walked out of there with an inhaler (Mikey's sister says she prescribes the same medication everyday in North Carolina...to people with emphysema), antibiotics, and vicadin cough syrup! Woohoo! I'm all better now, thank goodness! And looking back, that race was SOOO much fun. I can't wait to do it a year that I'm not sick!
